Da Nang to Hoi An is a trip of about 30 km by road, and what you pay for it depends almost entirely on how you go. For a solo traveler, the most expensive option costs more than ten times as much as the cheapest one.
The cheapest option changed its route in August 2026, the airport has its own bus, and a ride-hailing app publishes a set price for this exact trip. Which one suits you depends on when you arrive, how much luggage you carry and where you are staying in Hoi An, part of Da Nang city since July 1, 2025.

Which way to take from Da Nang to Hoi An
If your choice is between the lowest fare and a ride to your door, two options cover it. The cheapest way from Da Nang to Hoi An is public bus route 02, which starts at Da Nang Central Bus Station and costs 30,000 VND (about US$1) for the full route, while a Grab car takes you door to door for about 305,000–350,000 VND (about US$12–13.5) on the app's fixed fare for this route.
The table below puts the five main options side by side. Prices are one way, from each operator; the Grab line adds the platform fee to the app's fixed fare for 27–30 km.
| Option | One-way price | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Bus route 02 | 30,000 VND (about US$1) | Daytime, light bags |
| Hai Van airport bus | 120,000 VND (about US$4.5) | Daytime airport arrivals |
| Shared shuttle | From US$6 | Evening airport arrivals |
| Grab car, 4 seats | About 305,000–350,000 VND (about US$12–13.5) | Luggage, small groups |
| Airport taxi | About US$16.7 (airport reference, January 2025) | No phone data or app |
The two buses and the shuttle charge per passenger, while Grab and taxi prices are per car. For two people traveling together, a Grab car costs close to what two shuttle seats cost, and for three or four people it costs less than buying three or four shuttle seats.
Public bus route 02: the cheapest way
If you have time and only a small bag, route 02 is hard to beat on price. It runs between Da Nang Central Bus Station and the Hai Ba Truong parking lot in Hoi An, passing the Da Nang Administrative Center on the way, and since August 28, 2026 it has used electric buses.
The first bus leaves each end at 5:15 am and the last one at 6:30 pm, with 30 trips each way, every 15–30 minutes. Fares depend on how far you ride: 8,000 VND up to 10 km, 20,000 VND for 10–25 km and 30,000 VND beyond 25 km to the end of the route, so riding the whole route costs 30,000 VND.
Two details are worth checking before you board. The route page on the DanaBus website still shows the old end point at Cua Dai, while the August 2026 notice names the Hai Ba Truong parking lot, so if you are heading for the Cua Dai beach area, call the DanaBus hotline at +84 236 3711 468 first. Neither the notice nor the route page says anything about luggage or the trip time on the new route.
From the Hai Ba Truong parking lot, the Japanese Covered Bridge (Chùa Cầu) in the ancient town is about 1.1 km away, roughly a 15-minute walk.
Grab, Xanh SM and taxis
A car is the simplest choice when you have suitcases or arrive after the last bus. Grab publishes a fixed fare for this route: a 4-seat car costs 279,818 VND for the first 25 km plus 10,309 VND for each extra kilometer, and a 6-seat car costs 329,891 VND plus 14,335 VND per extra kilometer.
That fare does not include a platform fee of 5,000–19,000 VND, tolls or airport fees, and the app shows the final price before you confirm the booking. For the usual 27–30 km, a 4-seat car comes to about 305,000–350,000 VND (about US$12–13.5) with the platform fee. If you pay with a card issued outside Vietnam, Grab's payment provider charges a 4% fee on the final amount shown in the app.
Xanh SM, also called Green SM, is an electric taxi service that you can book in the Green SM app or on the 1555 hotline. Its Da Nang meter starts at 30,500 VND for the first 2 km, and its airport price list shows a fixed fare of 350,000 VND (about US$13.5) from the airport to Hoi An for up to 30 km, and 300,000 VND in the other direction. The list does not name the airport, so confirm the price when you book.
Traditional taxi companies such as Mai Linh, on the 1055 hotline, do not publish their Da Nang fares online. The airport's own reference table, published in January 2025, lists about US$16.7 for a 5-seat taxi to Hoi An Town and US$17.9 for an 8-seat taxi, airport fee included.
From Da Nang airport to Hoi An
Landing at Da Nang International Airport adds two options that start at the terminal itself. The Hai Van airport bus costs 120,000 VND (about US$4.5) per trip, and children under 6 pay half. It leaves from the parking lot of the domestic terminal (T1).
The official sources disagree on its timetable. The airport's arrival guide lists 7:30 am–4:00 pm, while DanaBus says the bus follows flight times, so if you land in the late afternoon, call Hai Van at 1900 6763 before you count on it.
The Barri Ann shared shuttle, which Hoi An Express points its customers to, sells seats from US$6 in a 16-seat Ford Transit. It leaves the airport 11 times a day between 7:00 am and 10:15 pm, picking up at Arrival Gate A4 of the domestic terminal, and the operator lists the trip at about 90 minutes, adding that the time can vary because the transfer is shared.
The same shuttle also picks up in Da Nang city center, with departures from 7:00 am to 10:30 pm, and runs back from Hoi An between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm. If you land after the shuttle's last airport departure at 10:15 pm, a Grab car, Xanh SM or an airport taxi can still take you, and the Hai Van bus is worth checking with the operator.
Before you go to Hoi An
Three things are worth sorting out before the trip: the travel time, the last bus back and the entry fees in the ancient town. By road, Hoi An's ancient town is 27–30 km from the airport, the Dragon Bridge (Cầu Rồng), East Sea Park (Công viên Biển Đông) or the Central Bus Station. Google estimates 40 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes by car for a Friday 10:00 am departure from Da Nang, which shows how much traffic can change the trip.
The last route 02 bus leaves Hoi An at 6:30 pm. If you plan to stay in Hoi An for dinner, book a car or check the shuttle times for the return.
Entry to the ancient town's heritage sites costs 20,000 VND per person for each site, the same for Vietnamese and foreign visitors, under a Da Nang city resolution that took effect on August 10, 2026. The older 120,000 VND ticket no longer applies.
If your trip falls between September and November, the city says that is when floods usually come. See when Hoi An floods before you book.
Sources and how we checked
We used fares and timetables published by the operators, DanaBus and the airport, checked on October 1, 2026, and left out taxi companies that do not publish Da Nang prices. Road distances and driving times come from Google Maps on the same day, and US dollar amounts use the Vietcombank transfer rate of 25,800 VND per US dollar on October 1, 2026.
