Da Nang to Hue by train in 2026: timetable both ways, fares, the heritage train and the bus

Between Da Nang and Hue, the railway crosses the Hai Van Pass (đèo Hải Vân), and two kinds of passenger train run on it; a public bus goes through the Hai Van road tunnel (hầm Hải Vân) instead. Their times and fares are easy to mix up, so which train should you take from Da Nang to Hue, and how do you book it?

How to get from Da Nang to Hue by train

Choose by departure time, price and whether you want a stop at Lang Co (Lăng Cô) on the way. As of October 2026, at least eight trains a day run from Da Nang station (Ga Đà Nẵng) to Hue: six regular SE trains and two heritage trains (HĐ). The trip takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours. For travel on October 14, 2026, Vietnam Railways' fare search gives 70,000–100,000 VND (about US$2.5–4) for a soft seat on the SE trains; the heritage trains cost more but stop at Lang Co.

The table lists the trains in Vexere's schedule for October 3, 2026, with times from Vietnam Railways' timetable search. SE trains are regular long-distance trains between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (SE19 and SE20 run between Hanoi and Da Nang); HĐ trains are the heritage trains described below.

Vietnam Railways' timetable search also lists SE24 (1:38 pm), SE12 (4:29 pm) and SE18 (6:55 pm) from Da Nang to Hue on October 3 and 14, but Vexere's schedule does not show them. Times can change, so check which trains are on sale when you book.

Trains from Hue to Da Nang

Use the same kinds of train in the other direction. At least eight trains a day run from Hue station (Ga Huế) to Da Nang, with a similar journey time.

Fares and how to book

Book online or at the station. Vietnam Railways sells tickets on dsvn.vn and vetau.com.vn, through ticketing apps and at stations. Heritage train tickets are also sold at ketnoidisan.dsvn.vn. A soft seat is a cushioned seat in an air-conditioned carriage; a six-berth cabin has bunks in three tiers and a four-berth cabin has two, and lower bunks cost more. The table shows the fares in Vietnam Railways' fare search for October 14, 2026, from Da Nang to Hue; fares include insurance and VAT.

SeatFare
Soft seat, air-conditioned (SE trains)84,000–100,000 VND (about US$3.5–4); 70,000–80,000 VND (about US$2.5–3) on SE20
Bunk in a six-berth cabin95,000–162,000 VND (about US$3.5–6.5)
Bunk in a four-berth cabin125,000–184,000 VND (about US$5–7)
Heritage train (HĐ), seat180,000–395,000 VND (about US$7–15.5)

Fares change by date and by train. For Saturday, October 10, the same search gave 210,000–460,000 VND (about US$8–18) for a heritage train seat, against 180,000–395,000 VND (about US$7–15.5) on Wednesday, October 14. A soft seat on SE20 stayed at 70,000 VND (about US$2.5), so compare a few trains when you book.

When you book online, enter each passenger's full name and passport number exactly as they appear in the passport. Vietnam Railways' rules from January 1, 2024 list the passport as the ID for foreign passengers, or a consular letter if it is lost. A ticket whose details do not match the ID is not valid, so carry the same passport when you board. Each passenger can bring up to 20 kg of hand luggage free, in pieces no longer than 80 cm and no wider than 50 cm.

The heritage train over the Hai Van Pass

Take the heritage train if you want a stop at Lang Co and do not mind a trip of up to 4 hours. Vietnam Railways runs it under the name Hành trình kết nối di sản miền Trung (literally, the journey connecting Central Vietnam's heritage), with two trains each way every day; the times are in the tables above.

In the official timetable for October 2026, the morning train from Da Nang (HĐ2) waits 38 minutes at Lang Co station and the afternoon train from Hue (HĐ3) waits 23 minutes; HĐ1 and HĐ4 stop there for 10 minutes. A March 2026 news report said passengers can get off to look around and take photos during the stop.

Safety note: Floods in Hue and Da Nang halted the heritage trains on October 28 and 29, 2025, and falling rocks on the Hai Van Pass stopped trains in mid-March 2026.

Check for notices from Vietnam Railways a day or two before you travel. See Hai Van Pass for the road over the top.

Da Nang station

Search your map app for "Ga Đà Nẵng" rather than a street number. The station is on Hai Phong Street (đường Hải Phòng) in Thanh Khe ward (phường Thanh Khê), and guides give several different street numbers for it.

Da Nang has planned to move the passenger station about 4.2 km (2.5 miles) up the line toward Hanoi, near Trung Nghia lake (hồ Trung Nghĩa); a 2024 proposal put construction from the third quarter of 2026 to 2030. The October 2026 timetables above are for the existing station on Hai Phong Street.

For the 2026 passenger rules, tickets and getting to the station, see the Da Nang train station guide.

By bus instead

Take the LK01 bus if the train times do not suit you. It runs from Da Nang Central Bus Station (Bến xe Trung tâm Đà Nẵng) to Hue South Bus Station (Bến xe phía Nam Huế) through the Hai Van tunnel. Buses run from 5:30 am to 7:00 pm every day, every 14 to 15 minutes. A full trip costs 80,000 VND (about US$3) for about 100 km (62 miles). A 2022 DanaBus fare list included stops at Lang Co and Chan May (Chân Mây). DanaBus does not give a journey time.

See Da Nang to Hoi An for the trip south, and the best time to visit Da Nang for the rainy months, when trains and roads over the pass can close.

Sources and how we checked

We used train times and fares from Vietnam Railways' own timetable and fare search, checked on October 2, 2026 for trains on October 3, 10 and 14, and listed the trains that also appear in Vexere's schedule for October 3, 2026; the official search shows six more (SE11, SE12, SE17, SE18, SE23 and SE24), which Vexere does not. The heritage train times come from its booking site and the official search, and its fares from the same search. Ticket and luggage rules come from Vietnam Railways, the bus from DanaBus, the station plan from a dated news report, the station's location from OpenStreetMap, and the differing street numbers from Danang Fantasticity (202 Hai Phong Street) and Vietnamese Wikipedia (791 Hai Phong Street). As of October 2, 2026, we found no news report that work on the new station had started. US dollar amounts use Vietcombank's transfer rate of 25,800 VND per US$ on October 1, 2026, rounded to the nearest cent below US$1, US$0.5 up to US$100, US$1 up to US$10,000 and US$1,000 above that.
